When to Mow the Lawn?

Right on time with the beginning of spring, the question of the permitted times for mowing the lawn is present. Due to the high noise level, rest periods were stipulated by law. Find out here when the lawnmower is allowed to operate.

General rule

The 32nd Federal Immission Control Ordinance gives the following generally applicable guidelines for the operation of lawnmowers in Germany.

Very quiet electric and cordless lawn mowers are marked with the yellow and blue EU environmental labels and are not subject to the regulations for lunchtime. Trimming the lawn with a hand mower is allowed at any time – even on Sundays and public holidays.

States and municipalities issue special regulations

In addition to the regulation outlined above, the federal states, cities and municipalities have the right to regional regulations. It is therefore advisable to inform yourself carefully before mowing the new lawn. The disregard of noise protection regulations is not a trivial offense and is punished with fines of up to 50,000 euros.

Not all areas are affected

The legal regulation of when lawn mowing is permitted or not essentially affects residential areas. In commercial and industrial areas, the rest periods do not work due to the general noise level.

Tips & Tricks

With all understanding of the necessity of mowing the lawn, the noise tugs the nerves during well-deserved rest periods and at worst makes one sick. This annoyance does not have to be accepted. With the help of a dedicated noise protocol, comprehensible evidence can be documented.
